The most anticipated movie of the year comes out today and just as expected, it scared the hell out of me.

2012 is a very fast-paced movie that captivates the hearts and minds of its audience.

The movie depicts the foretold destruction of our world where the earth suddenly changes its course causing displacement on the crust.

What made me consider this a great movie is that because it talks about how humans could react and respond to the situation where everyone’s lives are all at stake.

In the movie, several countries prepare to save at least a quarter, if not half of the world’s population and fight to restore the human civilization after the catastrophe. However, I see it as an unfair act to save a few rather than trying to save everyone. Arks made by several countries (with the help of private sectors contributing 1 Billion Euros for every passenger) are constructed on the secluded mountains of Tibet to which the rest of the world doesn’t know about.

A dramatic series of earthquakes, volcano eruptions and tsunamis wipe out the remaining people who have not gone into the Ark and the world as we know it, changes violently. The waters reach 29,000 feet, almost surpassing the summit of Mt. Everest (29,028 feet).

In the end, the waters subside and a newly-formed earth is shown and those who have been saved inside the Arks reestablish the new human civilization at the Cape of Good Hope in Africa.

What is odd about this is that to think that this may happen in the near future, who shall be saved and who shall not? Will our leaders, like what happened in the movie, choose only those who has the potential to contribute to the reformation of the human civilization? Well, let’s just hope for the best.

It’s yet too early to give spoilers so I did not write a detailed review of the movie. You should go watch it yourself.

After he died, he rose to fame again, and in his memory, fans, supporters and all those who love him have gone together to create one of the industry’s most awaited Movie Documentary.

Michael Jackson’s posthumous documentary film is now showing in cinemas for a short period of two weeks. For those who have not yet watched, let me tell you what to expect (though this could be more of a spoiler, sorry).

Personally, I am not a fan of MJ, just when he died did I had any interest in him and his songs. But this movie clearly would turn you into a fan. Michael Jackson’s This Is It is truly an exhilarating, moving and dramatic documentation of Michael Jackson’s would-be last performance.

Though his last performance was just on a dress rehearsal.

The movie features Michael Jackson’s rehearsals for his upcoming This Is It concert in London where a team of numerous dedicated men and women work together to create a spectacular show. Auditions for his back-up dancers were even shown and it was so amazing to see so many young people from all over the world auditioning to dance behind Michael Jackson. In the end, they chose not more than ten men and two girls for which one girl was picked by Michael Jackson himself.

She’s the one

What really amazed me was that Michael Jackson was all hands-on with the production. From music scores, arrangements, choreography and even on shooting background videos, it’s very amazing. Not all singers could do that!

The movie also featured performance rehearsals at its best where Michael performed some of his hit songs, Thriller (accompanied with a short video introduction), Billy Jean, Beat It, Heal the World and some songs of the Jackson 5.

This totally changed my impression with him. Before all this, I saw Michael Jackson as an old effeminate superstar trying to make his way back to the business but after I watched it, I changed my mind. Michael Jackson showed the real him. He worked really hard for everyone because he knew that this concert wasn’t all about him. It was all about the people behind the event, that he had to compensate what efforts they made for his concert. Through him, many dreams have been fulfilled, many aspirations have been put on stage and he sure did recognized them.

During one of the rehearsals, one of his guitarists had a solo on stage where he eagerly guided her on what to do.

This is your time to shine. We’ll be right at your back.

The movie ended with Michael Jackson’s last performance on stage while he said;

Make that change.

The movie documentary is directed by Kenny Ortega.

With the range of 10, we give this movie a 9!

When we talk about watching movies, we might also think about the best foods that go with them. The most common (probably the most not-thought-of) snack is the popcorn and soda.

But don’t you think it’s so boring?

Well I do, so why not think of something else? Let’s think about something MORE delicious than the salty or cheesy popcorn.

With the initiative of the Australian Embassy comes the 7th Australian Film Festival featuring six critically acclaimed films this coming November 5 to 14.

With the aims to further strengthen ties between Autralians and Filipinos, Ambassador Rod Smith heads this event which will be opened by Australian director Elissa Down who is also set to conduct classes at the University of the Philippines Film Institute and the Mowelfund Institute.

The festival will feature The Black Balloon, starring Academy Award-nominated and Emmy Award-winning actress Toni Collete (Sixth Sense, About A Boy), follows the story of 15-year-old Thomas (Rhys Wakefield) who tries to fit in his new life as his family moves to a new home w hile taking care of his autistic older brother Charlie (Luke Ford, The Mummy-Tom of the Dragon Emperor) and nurturing a budding romance with new girlfriend Jackie (Australian supermodel and actress Gemma Ward). Charlie takes Thomas on an emotional journey in a story that is funny, confronting and ultimately heart-warming. The film was awarded the prestigious Berlin International Film Festival Crystal Bear for Best Feature-Length film in the Generation 14-plus category and Australian Film Institute Awards for Best Direction, Best Supporting Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Film, Best Screenplay and Best Editing.

The other five films to be featured are Unfinished Sky, The Bank, Denny Deckchair; Garage Days and The Hard Word.

The Festival in Manila will be held in Greenbelt 3 Cinema 3 from November 5 to 8 and in Ayala Center Cebu Cinema 4 from November 9 to 14. Admission is worth Php65.00 in Manila while FREE in Cebu. For more info, CLICK HERE

So let’s rate them!

Kimmy and Dora (both Eugene Domingo) are identical twins but are as different as night and day. Kimmy is the smart, dictatorial type while Dora is the slow, dumb-wit sister. Kimmy has always been jealous of her sister as Johnson (Dingdong Dantes), the man she really likes, only has eyes for Dora. All hell breaks loose when their father(Ariel Ureta) gets a heart attack and makes Dora the majority owner of their family business if in case he dies. Kimmy thinks this is unfair and gets the help of their lawyer Harry (Baron Geisler) to take care of “business”. A misunderstanding brings forth a plan to kill Dora but they kidnap Kimmy instead. Now Kimmy must find a way to get away from her captors while Dora must act as her tough sister and control their corporation in order to hide from their father the truth.

Shirley (Vilma Santos) is a single mom and public school librarian. When her daughter Dang decides to leave her to go to Australia, she decides to go to New York to stay with her gay son, Mark (Luis Manzano) as a getaway from all her problems. There, she tries to start a new life with the help of Mark’s lover, Noel (John Lloyd-Cruz) while also trying to rekindle her lost relationship with Mark. But just as things are getting better for her in America, she finds out that her son and Noel are keeping a dark secret from her.

But because a lot of people are curious and interested with the event, you may find yourself in a little discomfort if you want to get there.

The movies are all free of admission BUT tickets are being released. It is advised that you go there TWO hours before the screening time. Tickets are being released two hours before every screening. Those unlucky folks who don’t have tickets will have to wait 15 minutes after the movie has started before finally getting admitted. Plus, you have to queue up while those with tickets sashay their way into the theater and get the best seats.

The 14th French Film Festival runs from June 5-14 at Cinema 3 of the Shang Cineplex in Mandaluyong.

The Pianiste was also issued a special permit for only one screening.
